Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta star Stevie J's ex-girlfriend held a press conference to announce his whopping $1 million outstanding child support debt last week. She also shared that he called her before the media gathering to try to persuade her from speaking out on it.
Carol Antoinette Bennett, who is the mother of two of Stevie J's five children ages 14 and 16, held the media event on Oct. 31 and shared the reality star's private voicemail message he left for her ahead of the conference.
"What's going on, uh I see all this press it's going crazy and then I see something 'bout a press conference on October 31," Bennette told Radar Online. "I would ask you not to do a press conference...so let's try to figure out what we doing. What's goin' on... aight?"
Despite the plea from the Grammy-winning music producer to hammer it out in private, she went public with assistance from Project Child Support, an organization that helps uncover and collect outstanding child support debt.
"My goal is not to incarcerate Stevie J.," Bennett said during the conference acording to Radar Online. "My intent is to find a resolution and to co-parent with Stevie J. and that means emotionally and financially so that our children can receive the support that they deserve."
Stevie J was issued an arrest warrant in 2010 for owing a staggering $1,158,391 but has only paid $132,220.30. He has been able to get away with not paying the remaining balance.
Bennett told TheUrbanDaily.com she went public because "the system has been failing me and there's not much I can do."
"My kids are 14 and 16. He has not made a voluntary payment in years," she revealed. "There's a court order in place to pay x amount per month. If you don't pay that, even if you can come close, it technically didn't occur. He's missed 168 payments."
"I'm not looking to have him locked up or go to jail. I just want him to be responsible," she added.
The former record label employee said now that her two children are in high school and will attend college in a few years and she really needs financial assistance from the reality star.
She also claimed that the award-winnng music producer has been successfully elusive at not making payments because he changes his business names every two years.
