To the excitement of its many loyalists, Netflix has finally wrapped the filming on its second season of the hit political drama, House of Cards.

Following the completion of shooting on Nov. 10, executive producer Beau Willimon recently took the opportunity speak to CNN about the program's goals and characters.

The EP started off by clarifying that HoC's objective isn't to convey a stereotypical story about journalism, but more along the lines of ambitious people.

"Our goal is not to tell the story of Woodworth and Bernstein, our goal was to say the land of media is just like any other profession where ambitious people will do anything to get what they want," he said.

While the average viewer may assume that the way Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) approaches her career just like any other journalist, Willimon points out that she's the exception to the rule, much like Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) takes corruption to a whole new level.

"The idea of noble, ethical journalism was not something we were trying to dramatize, and we don't mean for Zoe Barnes to be a template for the way that all journalism works. In fact, it's the exception. Just like Francis Underwood is the exception," he added.

Willimon continued driving the point across that the political masterpiece is more about the characters' internal conflicts and less about the plot's elements.

"Really, the focus is on the characters. What is happening emotionally and dramatically for the characters... If the characters are compelling and what's happening to them is important to them and that's conveyed to the audience, then it will be important and interesting to the audience," he said.

While no air date for House of Cards has yet to be determined, the show is projected to start its second season at some point in early 2014. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest news on the popular series.
