'Doctor Who' Season 8 Spoilers: New Trailers Reintroduce David Tennant and the Zygons for 'Day of the Doctor' VIDEO
It's been a long wait for Doctor Who fans, but two new promos for the upcoming 50th Anniversary Special have finally been released.
The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and his current companion, Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) will be joined on screen by the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), and the Unnumbered Doctor (John Hurt) in "The Day of the Doctor." As the 75-minute story unfolds, something stirs from within the London Nation Gallery in the present day, a killer advances on his victim in Elizabethan England, and somewhere in space an old war draws to a close.
The BBC released two previews for the episode over the weekend and, while they don't reveal too much, they do give fans a look at the Zygons and the interactions between the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors.
Of all the alien races the Doctor has encountered since the series resurrection in 2005, the Zygons haven't had a substantial role. However, executive producer Steven Moffat assures fans that they have been resurrected from Classic Who in all their former glory.
"The Zygons without question are a design classic," Moffat explained, according to the BBC. "They are superb; brilliant from the voice, to the appearance. Essentially we've resurrected exactly the same Zygon as Tom Baker fought back in the 70s. They are beautiful, and it'll show that the special looks forward to the future of Doctor Who and also celebrates the legend."
Meanwhile, the tenth and eleventh incarnations of the famous Time Lord will also be their familiar selves, a fact that may cause a bit of contention between the two.
"There's a funny bit in the script between the 10th and 11th Doctors comparing Sonics, so there's competitiveness in the story, but not off screen," Smith told the BBC of working with Tennant. "We just had a laugh and it was exciting to see David back in the pin striped suit and the Converse."

"The Day of the Doctor" will air worldwide on Nov. 23.
