Phillip Phillips Urged to Have Surgery Ahead of American Idol Finals
Phillip Phillips needs to have surgery immediately to treat his kidney, according to a report.
Phillip's family doctor urged him to have surgery right away when he visited his hometown in Georgia last weekend, but Phillips reportedly said he was not going to drop out of American Idol, TMZ reports.
There couldn't be a worse timing for his health issues. The singer earned his pass to the finals yesterday after nearly 90 million votes were cast for the competition.
Phillips' doctor told him to get the surgery right after the finale, according to the site.
The American Idol singer who is facing Jessica Sanchez in the finals next week, suffers from severe kidney problems (reportedly kidney stones) and is worsening.
In early March, during the competition, Phillips was rushed to the hospital after suffering severe abdominal pain.
Sources close to the singer said doctors put a "stent" in his kidney at the time because he had kidney stones that were obstructing the ureter.
Kidney stones are known to be painful but usually can be removed from the body without causing permanent damage.
When there are complications, kidney stones can cause kdiney damage or urinary tract infection among other things.
Phillips has to take medications which cause dry mouth and alter his singing.
The singer's illness may be one of the reasons why he is not featured in Ford clips shown on American Idol.
Phillips and Sanchez will perform next Tuesday for the last time. The winner will be announced Wednesday.
