AMC's The Walking Dead undoubtedly threw its loyalists a curve ball in last week's Live Bait episode, which featured a softer side to the heinous Governor (David Morrissey), post-battle with the prison group.

While the Governor, who revealed his real name to be Brian Herriott, doesn't exactly have the clout he once did as the leader of Woodbury, the former dictator was portrayed in a more humanly manner in the standalone installment.

Morrisey spoke to The Hollywood Reporter on Nov. 17 to touch on the change in his character's story arc that he feels audiences witnessed.

"He's a different man. With Andrea, he had all sorts of secrets going on in order to keep Woodbury going. He had a different ego: He was in his man cave and he had all attributes of success and was drunk on power. He doesn't have that now and is a man with nothing, He's a homeless guy they take in," he said.

At one point in Nov. 17 episode, the Governor burns a picture of his deceased family, seemingly symbolizing a newfound realization that he must move forward, which has a lot to do with a new woman in his life named Lily.

"There's an element where he burns his past so that he has to invest in the future and new people in his life. She's a different woman as well: Andrea was a fighter and had seen terrible things and fought battles; Lily has been isolated in this apartment, and she needs protecting in different way."

Will Carol disappear for good after being banished by Rick from the prison group?

The Walking Dead is set to make its return to the small screen for episode 6, Dead Weight, on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 9/8 p.m. Central Standard Time. The promo video for the upcoming installment can be viewed below.
