After the shocking death of a major character in Tuesday night's episode of Person of Interest, the show's characters will be going through a grieving process.

Person of Interest fans were shocked to witness Detective Carter (Taraji P. Henson) get shot and killed on episode 9 of Person of Interest season 3. Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman kept the spoiler a secret until the episode aired. The two producers talked to Entertainment Weekly about what to expect from the next episode in the wake of Carter's death.

"Episode 10 is called The Devil's Share and it deals very explicitly with the fallout from this episode, in which Robert John Burke's character Simmons has killed Carter and his number comes up," Plageman explained. "Finch is confronted for the first time with a conundrum: someone's going to die and it's probably going to be at the hand of one of his allies, but he doesn't know which one."

Henson herself is confident in the writers that they will use Carter's family, such as her son Taylor (Kwoade Cross), to do some interesting things going forward.

"I think the writers were brilliant in how they wrote the story and brought [Taylor's] father back," Henson noted. "Yes, it's sad because we lose Carter, but great things happen on her journey to set her son up . . . unfortunately for Taylor, he lost his mother, but he gained a father. Through her journey, she was able to get his father the help he needed, and now at least he has his dad, and his dad is healthy and sane and in his right mind."
