Derrick Rose Injury: Out for 2013-2014 NBA Season After Chicago Bulls Guard Undergoes Surgery for Torn Right Meniscus
Chicago Bulls point guard, Derrick Rose is out for the remainder of the 2013-2014 season after he tore his meniscus in his right knee.
Rose underwent successful surgery at Rush Unviersity Medical Center in Chicago on Monday. Soon after, Nba.com confirmed that the player who suffered from an ACL injury to his left knee last season would miss yet another season.
The 25-year-old was injured in the third quarter Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers. It happened when he made a backdoor cut and his right knee buckled as he planted on his left foot. He did not have any contact with any player on the floor.
Rose exited Portland's arena on crutches after leaving in the middle of the game. Bulls players offered support and encouragement but did not further discuss the injury in detail.
Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau tried to give his team confidence after stating that the season had to go on without Rose.
"We're the Chicago Bulls," Thibodeau said. "We have one goal and that's to win. I believe we have the personnel in that locker room to get it done. We know we don't have to change our style of play. We're built on defense and rebounding."
"We're hoping for the best," Thibodeau said. "We, of course, feel very badly for Derrick. I talked to him at length (Saturday) night. He's in good spirits, about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. And he's already thinking about his rehab. Typical Derrick, he's concerned about his team, his teammates. He's such a great teammate along with being a great player. That being said, we can't feel sorry for ourselves."
