American Idol Finale: Round One Goes to Jessica Sanchez Who Nails Whitney Houston Song
The tension is in the air as the final performance show of American Idol kicked off tonight at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
Judges and Ryan Seacrest entered the stage with 7,000 die hard Idol fans waiting to see the final two perform. Phillip fans and Jessica fans were going wild as the two finalists came on stage. Jessica says, "This is insane - I've never even dreamed of this moment and its happening to the both of us".
Jessica Sanchez sings first with Whitney Houston's "I have nothing" beautifully.
Phillip Phillips performed "Stand by Me" chosen by Simon Fuller. His rendition of the song sounds like a "Phillip" original - a soft rock version of the classic song. He's totally made this song his own.
Aftewards, the judges were asked about their opinions on round one. Jennifer Lopez said: "For me this is a tough one because its like the battle of the opposites. How do you compare with Jessica. This amazing vocal power. and then we have this modern day crooner. he has originality, artistry. A the end of the day, America has a tough job. Who is really making you pick up that phone and vote?"
As for Randy, he's already had his mind set. He said: "Round one probably went to Jessica".
