Carrie Underwood attended the 87th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City where she eagerly spoke about her new role in The Sound of Music remake.

"We still have a week to prepare but it's coming along really, really wonderfully," she told Today anchors Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer. "Just such a great cast, so much talent. I'm blessed for sure."

While being interviewed in the cold weather on Thursday, the 30-year-old said she hopes she and her cast members won't let people down.

"It's a big legacy and it's so important to so many people. Such a beautiful story, such beautiful music," she said. "We just want to do it justice."

The former American Idol winner went on to introduce her cast members, Michael Campayno and Ariane Rinehart, who performed the song Sixteen Going On Seventeen at the parade.

Underwood is taking on the iconic role of Julie Andrews in a live television production airing on Dec. 5 on NBC. The singer previously revealed that she's received some angry reactions from people who don't believe she should take on Andrews' role.

"I get hate tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!'" she recently told Entertainment Weekly. "I know I'm not Julie. Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was... I know my place."

Alongside Underwood will star True Blood's Stephen Moyer as Edelweiss and famous Broadway star Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess.
