AMC's hit zombie series, The Walking Dead, pulled no creative punches when it came to it mid-season 4 finale last night, as the program came to a close with fans mourning one major character's death and feeling fulfilled over another's demise.

Sadly, loyalists had to witness the lose of one of its most beloved prison group members, Hershel (Scott Wilson), who was the faction's older and wiser voice of reason. Hershel was taken out via a sword by the Governor (David Morrissey), who wanted to overtake the prison grounds with his new group.

However, it was the former farm owner's daughter Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who got retribution for her father, killing the one-eyed antagonist after Michonne (Dunai Gurir) pierced his chest with her sword.

Moving forward, The Walking Dead mid-season premiere sneak peek showed several random action shots, which included Carl (Chandler Riggs) seemingly desperate to awaken his father Rick (Andrew Lincoln).

With the Governor gone and the group on the move, the second half of the TV series will surely be moving locations, which will undoubtedly expose the group to different threats, and more unpredictable walker appearances.
