Danger emerges as the team responds to an emergency call in a burning apartment building on the Chicago Fire fall finale titled "Not Like This."

"What do they say at the academy?" Matthew Casey tells his squad. "One shift can change someone's life."

Perhaps that one shift is in reference to Casey's own life.

In the following scene, the firefighter is seen saving the life of a crying baby, who would have been killed by the fire. As Casey tries to escape the building, a beam collapses on him. At the end of the teaser, Casey is bloody and very injured.

"Come on Matt, not like this," Gabriela Dawson, who has tears in her eyes, yells in the ambulance.

The firefighters sit and wait at the hospital for an update of Casey's condition from the medical staff.

Was that really Casey's last shift at the firehouse?

The fall finale airs on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 10/9c on NBC.
