'Broadchurch' vs 'Gracepoint': How Similar Will American Version Be As David Tennant Reprises Role VIDEO
ITV's breakout British drama, Broadchurch, proved a major success across the pond. Now that Fox has imported both the series' plot and lead actor, some fans are wondering just how different the Americanized version will be.
Dubbed Gracepoint, the US version is spearheaded by Broadchurch's creator Chris Chibnall and features David Tennant as Detective Emmett Carver (previously DI Alec Hardy). After the death of a young boy rocks a small coastal town, local Detective Ellie Miller (Anna Gunn) must work alongside the newly promoted outsider, Carver, in order to solve the death while media descends on the case.
The former Breaking Bad actress is not entirely sure how far the new series will diverge from its predecessor, but Gunn did note that producers are not looking for an identical performance from the new cast.
"I really just honestly sealed the deal a couple of days ago, so we haven't gotten into those kinds of details yet," Gunn explained to TV Line. "But definitely they want me to put my own stamp on [Ellie]."
As Gunn works to separate herself from Olivia Colman previous performance, Tennant is faced with the interesting task of having to tweak his portrayal of DI Hardy to fin Detective Carver. According to TV Guide, Tennant will be creating something "similar to his role in the original," which should be a good things considering the Scottish actor helped to draw in 10 million viewers for the UK version.
Gracepoint is slated to air on Fox during the 2014-2015 season. Check out a trailer for the British iteration by clicking the video below.
