Falling Skies fans should prepare for the unexpected when the series returns to TNT for its fourth season next summer.

With a different showrunner at the helm and a crew of new writers, Falling Skies will be mixing it up and separating the fighting force of the Masons and the 2nd Mass.

"Ideas will just be fresh and fortunately there has been a lot of support from those on high, including [executive producer Steven] Spielberg," said showrunner David Eick, according to IGN. "We hope that we've been able to yank the rug out on what you might expect from the show but also not throw the baby out with the bath water."

Following an explosive season opener, it appears the Mason boys will be unwillingly heading in different directions. While an injured Tom (Noah Wyle) urges Matt (Maxim Knight) to flee without him, his actions will possibly result in the youngster's detainment in an incredible creepy military-esque school while Tom and Captain Weaver (Will Patton) appear to be locked up elsewhere.

Considering how excited the cast is for the new episodes, it sounds like the season 4 story arc will be equally as adrenaline packed for viewers.

"Season 4 is kicking ass you guys," tweeted Colin Cunningham, who plays the rebellious John Pope. "And the powers that be, continue to push the envelope. TNT has real guts. Nobody's resting on laurels."
