Batman's cape and cowl will be several sizes to large for Gotham's Bruce Wayne.

Deadline threw some DC fans for a loop in September when it announced that the upcoming Fox series would not be featuring the Caped Crusader. It now turns out that a more accurate description would be that Gotham is not featuring Batman at a time that he is known as such.

Instead, viewers will be seeing Bruce at age 10, just after his parents' death, according to TV Show Auditions.

The series will indeed be focused on the rise of Police Commissioner James Gordon, but it will begin when he is a young homicide detective covering the case of Tomas and Martha Wayne's murders.

Written by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller, Gotham appears to be DC's response to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. The rival comic book brand is currently attempting to create its own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it remains to be seen if the new series is a piece of this plan.

DC appears to be building their universe from Man of Steel up and has skimped on the origin stories. While Arrow operates in its own little microcosm on the CW and many presume the upcoming Flash series will as well, fans are wondering if Gotham will do the same while the interconnecting stories only play out on the big screen.

Viewers will find out more when Gotham debuts in the Fall of 2014.
