The upcoming fifth season of Community will feature the departure of Troy (Donald Glover), and the cast recently previewed his exit from the show.

TVLine spoke with the cast of Community after Glover's final episode, which is said to be a fitting one for Glover as Troy.

"It's a great goodbye and it feels organic," said Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays Shirley on the sitcom. "You wonder what there could be that could break up Troy and Abed or make Troy leave Greendale, but what it is makes sense."

Joel McHale (Jeff) agreed that it's not necessarily a happy ending considering,

"Abed is losing his best friend and that's very sad. But within that sad thing happening, [creator] Dan Harmon puts in lightning bolts of jokes and it's great."

Glover is only appearing in five episodes in the upcoming season of Community and they will likely be the first five episodes. Glover posted a series of revealing Instagram notes that explained why he was leaving Community, saying that he just wanted to be alone for a while.

As for whether or not Glover would return to his popular character, frequent screen partner Danny Pudi (Abed) is confident that he will.

"There is a little bit of hope that maybe Donald will come back," Pudi said. "There's always a chance. That's the thing about our show: I never really believe anything is done anymore. Community has given me the best gift: the perspective that nothing is dead until it's dead. So, there's a window - a tiny, tiny window..."

Community season 5 premieres Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
