Despite MTV's hit show Awkward only wrapping its third season on Dec. 17, major spoilers have already been revealed by one of the cast members for season 4, set to begin airing sometime in spring 2014.

Beau Mirchoff, who has played heartthrob Matty McKibben since the show's first season, spoke to Hollywood Life about what fans could expect in the upcoming season.

Season 3 ended with Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty still apart after their Colin (Nolan Funk)-induced split. Matty has since moved on to Jenna's new friend, Bailey (McKaley Miller). Jenna seemed okay with it and decided to focus on herself instead.

Mirchoff teased that despite a summer apart before the gang begins senior year, it doesn't mean that things are completely hopeless for the former couple.

"I will say they don't see each other once over the summer. They go their separate ways and do their own thing. They run into each other on the first day of senior year, and everything sparks from there," he said. "Who knows what could happen over an entire summer? I think Matty and Jenna were each other's first loves, and you never really lose that."

Mirchoff also spoke about how the Palos Hills gang will begin preparing for their post high school futures.

"The new season starts in senior year, and all the characters feel like they've already graduated," he said. "So everybody's getting ready for college. I will say the content becomes more mature, which is actually really funny. There's some great stuff for Matty you definitely won't see coming...He's an alien!"

Awkward will return for its fourth season sometime next year and will also feature a major difference on the creative front. Showrunner and creator Lauren Iungerich will not be back. She handed the show over to Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler, CarterMatt reported.
