American Horror Story: Coven is winding down with only four episodes left, prompting speculation as to what season 4 of the anthology series will be about.

One of the more popular theories for season 4's concept is a carnival/circus theme. There has been evidence to suggest a carnival setting for season 4 from both outside and within Coven. In one of the most recent episodes, Fiona (Jessica Lange) gives a monologue about life being like a "carnival," which may be a huge hint for next season.

Additionally, American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly recently that the show will either be taking place in New Orleans or Santa Fe. Assuming they shoot in Santa Fe, the location's wide, dusty landscapes could provide a perfect setting for a carnival or circus.

As for other possible concepts, American Horror Story could potentially tackle cults and secret societies for season 4. The concept would be topical given certain conspiracy theories about Hollywood groups like Scientology and even the Illuminati.

One commonly used horror location is various types of camps. Films like the Friday the 13th franchise, which involves serial killer Jason Voorhees terrorizing young, pretty people at a lakeside camp, could provide inspiration for a potential season.

American Horror Story could possibly use some of their Coven ideas for a new season involving slavery and/or plantations. The producers could possibly take stories from real-life atrocities committed by slave owners.

Murphy has previously stated that he will be dropping more hints about season 4 within the last few episodes of Coven, so fans should keep alert for any potential concepts.

American Horror Story: Coven airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
