Bones fans will be introduced to a brand new serial killer on the upcoming 12th episode of season 9.

Fox released a synopsis for the next episode of Bones season 9, which is titled The Ghost in the Killer. In the episode, the Jeffersonian team is investigating the death of a girl named Lana Brewster, who died 18 years ago. Lana's remains are delivered to the home of Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) by someone who thinks her death was not an accident, as previously assumed.

The Jeffersonian team comes to the conclusion that Lana was murdered and her death was covered up. People from Lana's past come out of the woodwork as key suspects in the case, including an ex-boyfriend who was friends with Hodgins (T. J. Thyne).

Brennan starts to have dreams about the serial killer Pelant (Andrew Leeds), haunted by the man who almost prevented her from getting married to Booth. She also dreams about another, "more heinous" killer - someone who could be intricately involved with the death of Lana.

The new killer that Brennan dreams about will be a major force in the second half of Bones season 9. Dubbed "The Ghost Killer," the serial killer will be less visible than Pelant, choosing to work in the shadows.

"[The Ghost Killer] is a very ephemeral presence and sort of an evil that lurks in the shadows, someone whose identity we are not even sure of," executive producer Stephen Nathan told Entertainment Weekly previously.

Bones season 9 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
