The new serial killer on Bones might be a female, according to a new report.

The "Ghost Killer" will be introduced on the midseason premiere of Bones season 9, replacing Pelant (Andrew Leeds) as the big serial killer of the season. Fans shouldn't expect the Ghost Killer to actually be seen in the flesh though.

Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan told TVLine recently that the Ghost Killer "will not necessarily be personified" in the episode, adding that the gender of the killer will probably be female. "We will know that he or she -- most probably a she -- exists, but this is a very ephemeral villain."

Meanwhile, "squintern" Wendell (Michael Grant Terry) "is greeted with a pretty shocking health concern," according to Nathan, who said that he will be dealing with this for the rest of season 9.

As for the marriage at the center of Bones, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) will be dealing with some of the more practical issues that come with marriage.

Some of the questions that will be addressed in the second half of season 9 include: "What happens if something happens to one or both of them? What is their financial situation? Are they pooling their money?" Nathan teased. "All of the practical things that confront couples will be confronting Booth and Brennan."

Bones season 9 returns for its midseason premiere on Friday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
