With How I Met Your Mother less-than 10 episodes away from airing its series finale, series co-creator Carter Bays has revealed that he began writing the final episode back in 2006.

Series Finale To Feature Flash-Forwards, A Twist and Several Surprises?

The writer and co-creator of the show shared a photo on his Twitter account on Thursday, Feb. 6, which showed the first time he began writing a final episode for the show, back in its first season.

"Writing finale. Found this doc on my computer. Look @ the date. No memory of writing it. Wish I could shoe the rest!" he captioned a photo of his computer screen.

'HIMYM' Final Scene Filmed Eight Years Ago?

The screen-shot shows his computer open to the Screenwriter program, with the words "How I Met Your Mother-'Finale'. Writer's First Draft 2/21/06" across the top, followed by "1. Int. Train Station Day."

Bays' reluctance to show the rest, as well as the small hint of a scene taking place at a train station may be a clue as to how the final moments of the show will go down.

Throughout the show's run, fans have learned clues about the pivotal mother character, specifically that she met Ted on the train platform in Farhampton after Barney and Robin's wedding, which was revealed in the Season 8 premiere.

By season 8's end, the mother's identity (though not her name) was also revealed, and season 9 has seen several flash-forward scenes between her and Ted.

It was previously confirmed that Ted's kids would also feature heavily in the finale, and scenes involving them were actually shot eight years ago.

"We have not changed the very end of the series at all. In fact, we shot part of it back in 2006, before Ted's kids got much older!," Craig Thomas recently confirmed. "We just looked at that footage, which will factor into the end of the series-it totally worked and was kind of haunting to watch! Shot 8 years ago and it will now help end our series on March 31st 2014!"
