‘How I Met Your Mother’ SERIES FINALE Spoilers: Final Script Written And Guaranteed To Make Fans Cry? [PHOTOS]
How I Met Your Mother fans received a sobering reminder that their beloved sitcom was ending soon when one of the show's co-creators tweeted over the weekend that the final script was written.
"HIMYM" Series Finale Will Feature " A Twist?"
Carter Bays, who created the show alongside Craig Thomas, tweeted on Feb. 8 that Thomas had finished the script and made him cry in the process.
"Just read a beautiful script by my favorite writer. His name is @HimymCraig and it's the #HIMYM finale and I can't deal with this right now," he wrote.
Ted Won't Meet The Mother Until The Series Finale?
The finale, which will air in a special hour-long format on March 31, will be titled Last Forever, according to The Huffington Post. The episode will reportedly cover all the time between present day and the year 2030, the year where future Ted began telling his kids the nine-seasons-long story.
Bays' sentiment about the script is not the only indicator that the finale will make fans cry. Stars Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders and Josh Radnor have all said that they know how the show ends, and that it will be unexpected and sad.
When the cast appeared on CBS' The Talk back in January, Harris confirmed reports that he had cornered Bays and Thomas at the cast Christmas party and got them to tell him how it all ended after they all had had a few drinks.
"It's more complicated than I had thought-it's not just a simple, one-word ending,' he said. I think that our fans who have stuck with us will really appreciate all the details."
Radnor also spoke about the final episode of the series during the cast's appearance, saying he has known a key plot point since the show's beginning, and had recently confirmed that it was still set to happen.
"They told me, then I didn't know if they would go through with it," he said. "At the beginning of this season I asked 'Are you still doing the...?' and they said 'yeah.'"
Smulders also revealed back in January that she has known what was going to happen for a while as well, and that hearing how it all ended made her cry.
"I immediately started weeping and had to leave. Like I had to leave. I said that, I was like 'Craig, I have to leave right now. Thank you,' and I just walked away," she said.
How I Met Your Mother returns with the all-new episode, Rally on Monday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
