Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Miami Heat on Tuesday evening in Game 1 of the NBA 2012 finals. The Thunder won by 105-94 to give them the advantage to go into the rest of the best if seven game series.

Russell Westbrook was inspiring for the Thunder, as was Kevin Durant who scored an immense 36 points as well as making 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Durant was particularly sensational in the fourth quarter, and the Heat just had no answer to his devastating efficiency and power; scoring 17 points in the final quarter.

The Heat were in fantastic form going into this opening game of the NBA finals 2012, they defeated the Celtics 101-88 in Game 7 to make it through to face the Thunder. They have been inspired by LeBron James in recent games and throughout the season, however, he was unable to combat the inspired Durant and Westbrook Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the Thunder has continued their good run of form and will be hoping to take forward the momentum into Game 2. They showed their good form by defeating the Spurs in the Western Conference final, and even though they were 13 points down at one point against the Heat, they came back to delight their home fans.

Kevin Durant was the main man for the Thunder, and has been in inspiring form throughout the postseason. Another stand out star for the Thunder this year, and in Game 1, has been Russell Westbrook, who prior to tonight's game had been averaging 21.7 points for Oklahoma City.

Miami Heat vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Game 2 will take place on Thursday night at 9 p.m. ET.
