'True Detective' Carcosa: Cohle & Hart Learn Truth About Yellow King In Final Episode? [VIDEO]
As True Detective reaches its final episode of season 1 on Sunday, many of the show's mysteries have not yet been solved, including the mysterious Carcosa and the Yellow King.
Matthew McConaughey Talks Season 2 Return Possibilities
Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) revealed in the latest episode of True Detective that he was obsessing over the ideas of Carcosa, the Yellow King and scars. Along with Hart (Woody Harrelson), Cohle has been unable to fully connect all of these ideas to provide anything worth convicting.
The land of Carcosa has been referenced by several characters through the first seven episodes, indicating that it is definitely a place where bad things happen. Carcosa has been described as a place where "black stars rise," and there were certainly stars visible at the Light of the Way School, owned by the seemingly-corrupt Tuttle family.
Hart Goes To 'Great Lengths' & Bends Rules In Solving Murder Case?
Carcosa is seen in literature in the 1895 collection of short stories called The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers. The city is not specifically described in any manner, only discussed as an otherworldly place where evil and mysterious things occur.
The King in Yellow has been referred to as a work intended to drive its reader mad, which could correlate with Cohle, and to a lesser extent, Hart's obsessions. The latest episode of True Detective featured the revelation of the mysterious "man with the scars" as the simple gardener Errol Tuttle. Could Cohle and Hart be chasing something entirely constructed in their own conspiracy theories?
True Detective airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
