Julia is trying desperately to save her marriage with Joel, but he isn't being as responsive as she hopes.

In a teaser from the next episode of NBC's Parenthood, Julia tells her estranged husband, "The Joel I know will not bail out." She later asks in tears, "How are you not fighting for me?"

While it seems hopeless, the last scene shows Joel and Julia exchange a comforting smile.

The two have been living apart ever since Julia confessed that she kissed Ed, although she said it meant nothing to her. Will Joel ever be able to get over it?

Erika Christensen, who plays Julia, previously spoke with Parade magazine and said that she thinks the couple will move forward.

"They've got ten years of a loving relationship under their belts and, in the interest of their children and everything, I think they can," she said.

However, if her character does rekindle her romance with Joel, Christensen said she's not sure if they will be able to have the same loving and trusting relationship they once shared.

"I think it will inform their relationship from here on out, assuming that they make it, but not in a bad way necessarily. Maybe in one of those 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger' ways," she told the magazine.

"As long as they fully regain each other's trust. That's the only thing that's at risk at this point. You can't have a relationship at all if you don't trust each other. If they get that back, then everything else can build from there, even if they rebuild it in a new way."

-- Parenthood airs on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
