The 100, a new post-apocalyptic drama series, is set to premiere Wednesday night on The CW, featuring an all-star cast and an interesting new concept.

In the present of The 100, life on Earth is destroyed in the wake of a nuclear apocalypse nearly 100 years ago. Only 400 people were left alive due to them being in orbit in space at the time. A full 97 years later, there are three generations of people living in the space station (called The Ark), but resources are running low.

As a result, it is decided that 100 young people will travel back to Earth in order to see if the planet can sustain life again. Each young person wears a wrist gadget to communicate with the space station. When the flow of data stops between them, it is assumed that the young person is dead.

The cast for The 100 is a mix of newcomers and prolific actors. Newcomer Eliza Taylor plays Clark, the intelligent daughter of the Afrk's primary medical officer while Thomas McDonell (Suburgatory) plays Finn, a daredevil.

There is the brother-sister duo Bellamy and Octavia, played by newcomer Bob Morely and Marie Avgeropoulos (50/50), respectively. Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules) plays the lighthearted Jasper while Christopher Larkin (Squad 85) plays Monty, a resourceful young man.

The adult cast is most featured on The Ark. Isaiah Washington (Grey's Anatomy) plays Chancellor Jaha while Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) plays the Chancellor's second in command Kane. Paige Turco (Person of Interest) plays Abby, the widowed mother of Clark. All three are forced to confront moral decisions through the series.

The 100 premieres Wednesday, March 19 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
