'American Horror Story' Season 4 Spoilers: Jessica Lange Plays German Carnival Troupe Owner? [VIDEO]
With the confirmation that American Horror Story season 4 would be set at a carnival, fans of the series are left wondering what the actual main plot could be.
Season 4 Based On Classic Carnival Movie?
Douglas Petrie, one of the writers of American Horror Story: Coven, recently spoiled that season 4 would generally be set at a carnival though he did not go into any specifics. American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed a few other details, particularly that it will be set in the 1950s and feature Jessica Lange's character having a German accent.
TV Guide previously speculated on what the season could be about, writing that Lange was rumored to be playing the owner of a German carnival troupe which is rebuilding after World War II.
Lea Michele "Begging" To Be Cast In American Horror Story?
Murphy said that Lange is playing a character similar to Marlene Dietrich, a German actress and singer famous in the 1930s.
Dietrich was well-known for her sensual voice and generally glamorous sensibility. She entertained the U.S. troops stationed in Nazi Germany and received the U.S. War Department's Medal of Freedom in 1947.
Lange and fellow regular Sarah Paulson are the only cast members that have confirmed roles in season 4.
The TV Guide report also notes that in 1950 there was an incident in Sarasota, Fla. in which a rouge elephant from Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey Circus trampled over a five-year-old's head. This type of incident could be used at some point during the season.
American Horror Story season 4 premieres in fall 2014 on FX, though the network has not yet scheduled a set air date.
