Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: King Joffrey Dead!? YouTube Reacts To Purple Wedding, Jack Gleeson Quits Acting [PHOTOS, VIDEOS]
He had it coming. Game of Thrones fans around the world collectively sounded like the chorus from Chicago, when King Joffrey was murdered at his own Purple Wedding in April 13th's "The Lion and the Rose" episode. The little (insert expletive here) had it coming! But with the king dead, we now have a whodunit game of Clue on our hands. Well, whoever killed the king, fan YouTube reactions were priceless.
King Joffrey's Mother Cersei Lannister Grieves
Some gawked, some cheered, some fist bumped, some jumped out of their seats, some sat in stunned silence. But mostly everyone was utterly delighted. As reported on The Washington Post on April 14, nearly 800 reaction clips had been uploaded to YouTube. "It's a time-honored Internet tradition: Whenever any shocking video goes viral, some voyeuristic jerk will sneak out a camera phone and catch his or her friends' reactions for all of YouTube to see. Sunday's Game of Thrones was no exception."
Joffrey's b***chy mother, Queen Cersei's reaction was not so hilarious. Queen Cersei, (Lena Headey) immediately pointed to Lord Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), the "half-man" quick-tonged dwarf on the show (and Joffrey's uncle). "You poisoned my son, your king. Take him, take him!" Lord Tyrion was immedietely arrested.
Jack Gleeson, the 21-year-old actor who superbly plays the spoiled impervious brat, reacted to his own death with the most joy. He photobombed himself on Instagram next to his pukey mug - with a smile. After Game of Thrones, Gleeson's retiring from Hollywood and heading into academia.
"It was always a recreation beforehand, but when I started doing Game of Thrones, perhaps the reality was made too real for me," Gleeson said of his acting. "The lifestyle that comes with being an actor in a successful TV show isn't something I gravitate towards." He told Rolling Stone on November 26.
Preferring the halls of Dublin Trinity College to the glitz of Hollywood, Jack is also inspired by humanitarian charitable work. "I'd been looking to use the celebrity I've got from the show to bring awareness for causes Goal supports." Clearly, the actor is a far cry from his sadistic alter ego.
Game of Thrones: Will Theon Survive The Torture?
After Game of Throne's "Red Wedding" spectacle where several major players were massacred (including a pregnant Talisa stabbed in her belly multiple times); murder became a thing at GoT weddings. No one is safe. Not even the king - and it was his wedding to Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer).
George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones creator sounds off in an April 13th interview with Entertainment Weekly about the demise of his most monstrous character.
"I knew all along when and how Joffrey was going to die, and on what occasion... Part of it was that there's a lot of darkness in the books. I've been pretty outspoken in my desire to write a story where decisions have consequences and no one is safe."
Now, with King Joffrey dead, who will take The Iron Throne?
