'The Voice' Season 6 Contestants: Cast 'Scared' Of Christina Grimmie & Sisaundra Lewis, 'Biggest Competition' [PHOTOS, VIDEOS]
Tuesday night, NBC's hit singing show The Voice took the axe to Tess Boyer (Team Shakira) and Bria Kelly (Team Usher). The remaining eight dish on their coaches their biggest competition and their hopes and dreams.
Metro caught up with the remaining eight warblers on May 1.
Delvin Choice, 24, (Team Adam) hails from South Carolina, and has been crooning to the crowds. He loves how "genuine" Coach Adam is. Choice's middle name is perseverance. He tried out last season and didn't get any chairs to turn during auditions.
"But this season has multiplied tenfold. Being able to hear stories of kids and even adults who have been inspired by my perseverance is my motivation. My motto is to keep changing lives by chasing dreams."
But Choice wasn't always all balls and bluster. He had to "borrow a friends' faith" before signing up again.
"To be honest though, I didn't even want to try out again. It took somebody else believing in me for me to give it another shot."
The voice to beat this season seems to be Christina Grimmie, 20, from New Jersey. She's Team Adam too. The big siren in the tiny package says memorizing songs so fast is "usually smooth sailing but still a lot of pressure." The singer, who also has nabbed a tour with Selena Gomez says her biggest challenge is "being away from my family."
Kat Perkins, 33, from Scranton, North Dakota -also Team Adam- said "it is very distracting working with the sexiest man alive. I mean, physically he's hot, but his personality makes him even more gorgeous. He's smart and witty and definitely deserves that title. The tattooed rocker said she's most scared of "people like Christina Grimmie, who have a huge social media following. I'm behind in the social media game and she's very talented. I'm working on getting my numbers up and singing well. It's all part of it."
Country boy Josh Kaufman 37, hailing from Indiana (Team Usher) says his biggest challenge is performing on stage: "There's so much more on the line. You feel like every moment onstage matters but you're still trying to have fun." He talks about Usher's "weird" but "effective" techniques to make him a better performer:
"He has me run around the stage before rehearsal, and sometimes he'll have me sing in the mirror. Or he'll have me sing away from the mirror then turn towards it and look directly at myself."
Kristen Merlin, 28, from Massachusetts (Team Shakira) talks about how important performances are as well.
"You have to connect with what you're singing. You have to believe it if you want the audience to believe you."
She believes her biggest competitions are the other country singers, Jake Worthington and Audra McLaughlin.
Powerhouse Sisaundra Lewis, 44, from Florida (Team Blake), who regularly tears the roof off with searing performances, says the most difficult part of The Voice is not seeing her children enough. But her kids are super supportive:
"My children are age seven, 15 and 25. The two youngest live with me, and they have been so supportive. My kids want me to go out there and chase my dream."
Sisaundra admits that while competition is fierce on stage, backstage it's all one big family.
"We come together as artists and we've built such strong bonds, even with the producers. They do so much for us."
Country gal McLaughlin, 22, from Pennyslvania and also Team Blake, enjoys getting to email her superstar coach anytime.
"He'll email me like, 'How you doin' sis?' He's always checking up on us to make sure we're OK."
Her biggest competition? Lewis. Although a close friend, McLaughlin says, "if I had to pick one person it would probably be Sisaundra because she's such an amazing person and very talented."

And rounding out the Top 8 is lovable country singer, Worthington, 18, from Texas (Team Blake). Just like McLaughlin, he gushes about working with Blake, "I mean, not every day you think you'd be able to sit down and talk with a huge country star like Blake, but I'll tell you one thing, he puts his pants on just like anyone else and he ain't afraid to be himself." He also joked about something viewers don't see, "I know what's in Blake's cup [laughs]."
With a variety of musical styles and a wide range of powerhouse voices the Top 8 will fight to the finish line. But only one will be crowned.
Tune into The Voice on NBC Monday and Tuesdays 8/7c.
