On Thursday night’s episode, Traveler Julian went through Tyler’s body and ripped out Stefan’s heart from his chest. In the final moments, Caroline was seen standing over Stefan’s corpse in shock as he passed through Bonnie. But, can this really be true?
According to Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, it is. The 31-year-old nonchalantly tweeted, "Stefan is done-zo. Sorry guys,” after the segment aired.
Kat Grahams Teases 'Biggest' Finale Ever
How do fans feel about this? Judging by thousands of tweets, they aren’t too pleased.
For weeks, one of the showrunners, Caroline Dries, teased that some major characters were going to die in the episodes leading up to the season 5 finale. However, it was hard to imagine that Stefan would be one of them.
Dries has also spoken of her desire to get rid of the “Other Side,” making the chances of Stefan returning to the show seem fairly grim.
On Thursday’s episode, Bonnie also revealed another dilemma: Liv’s spell that has the potential to bring people back from the purgatory, doesn’t exist.
"There is no spell. I made it up," Bonnie told Caroline. "The other side is collapsing and everyone in it, including me, is going away for good."
-- The Vampire Diaries season 5 finale airs on May 15 at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
