Despite bringing the network one of its most successful sitcoms in the past decade, the writing duo of Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will not see their planned spin-off for How I Met Your Mother on CBS.

'HIMYM' Cast Tapped For Guest-Starring Roles On 'How I Met Your Dad?'

How I Met Your Dad was passed on by CBS, after much speculation that the show was guaranteed a pick-up by the network for the Fall 2014 lineup.

In an official statement May 14, Chairman of CBS Entertainment Nina Tassler confirmed that show was not moving forward.

CBS Delaying Decision On 'HIMYD' Because of Fans?

"To say we loved this show and these producers is an understatement," she said, while explaining that she was heartsick that things didn't work out, and copping the decision to pass on "elements of the plot not working out."

According to Deadline, a disagreement between the network and the producers to "re-pilot" the show was not agreed upon, leaving the show officially dead if a last-minute agreement cannot be reached, as CBS's option on the program expires later today.

The network has previously re-piloted other successful shows, including The Big Bang Theory, now concluding its seventh season as the highest-rated comedy on television, and new pickup, The McCarthys, which producers of the show did not want to do because of the high chance they believed the project could have succeeded due to its predecessor and the re-teaming of Bays and Craig, as well as Emily Spivey.

The show had received a large amount of feedback that seemed positive after the announcement that the cast would have included Greta Gerwig, Meg Ryan, Nicholas D'Agosto, Drew Tarver, Andrew Santino, Tiya Sircar and Anders Holm.

However, fans of How I Met Your Mother who were disappointed by the direction the series took for its finale episode in March were less accepting of the new show. In fact, the news that the show has not been picked up has actually met some positive reactions from fans on Twitter.

There have been no official comments on Twitter from anyone involved with the show.
