Tognoni, 40, is no stranger to soap operas. She starred as Kelly Cramer on One Life to Live from 1995 to 2011 and Dinah Marler on Guiding Light from 2004 to 2009.

Victor And Dylan Work Together To Bring Down Ian Ward?

"Phyllis Summers has been cast! Does this mean she's coming out of her coma?" the show's official Twitter account teased on Thursday.

The character, which made her debut on the show in 1994 with actress Michelle Stafford, has been in the hospital for a year now after suffering a brain trauma from a staircase fall.

Although, Phyllis' fiancé, Jack Abbott, has hoped that she would wake up from the coma, he started spending some time with Kelly Andrews. However, Jack and Phyllis' daughter, Summer, didn't approve of her father's new romance. In turn, Jack promised Summer that if her mother ever wakes up from the coma, he would be with her no matter what.
