Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon on The Vampire Diaries, revealed what he hopes will happen on the CW show next season.

Stefan To Go Through 'Character-Defining Journey' After Damon's Death?

"Damon, Stefan, and Elena, they're all extraordinarily different people, but hopefully, what happens is that in some crazy, cohesive way, they all get to live their lives in a very harmonious way," he told E! News.

But, Somerhalder added that it will probably be difficult for the characters and their little love triangle to be at ease.

"The problem is, it's Mystic Falls, and harmony does not work within this spectrum, so it's probably going to be more jagged and somewhat abrasive," he added. "There'll be bits and pieces layered in there that are going to be pretty and soft, but ultimately, if you're happy in Mystic Falls, there's no drama, and if there's no drama, there's no show."

Stefan and Elena along with the rest of the Mystic Falls gang will also have to deal with another big issue during season 6 - Damon and Bonnie's death.

The show's executive producer, Julie Plec, spoke about how the characters will handle the loss of both their friends as The Other Side is destroyed, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Some are in denial, some are still searching for answers. 'They've got to be somewhere. Where are they? We've got to rescue them,'" she said. "Some have given up completely. Each individual character's reaction to the loss of these two people will be what informs the beginning of the sixth season."
