Jack Huston (American Hustle, Kill Your Darlings) was supposed to have a three-episode stint as WWI Veteran Richard Harrow in season 1 of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. His character proved to be so popular, however, that by the second season he had become a part of the regular cast.

Director Martin Scorsese Returning for Final Season of Boardwalk Empire?

The show's season 4 finale ended with quite a few shockers, most notably the death of the beloved Harrow.

After being wounded, Harrow found himself sitting under the boardwalk, dying. His mask, which Harrow used to hide the disfigured portion of his face, lay in the sand and, all alone and in great pain, until he "died." Or did he? By the close of the episode devoted viewers found themselves wondering: was he really dead?

Huston has confirmed in a number of interviews that the character, whom audiences wanted so much to root for, did die at the close of the episode. "The only thing that could happen, for the greater good, for the show and for the character," Huston told Rolling Stone, "Was that he die, tragically, because he was a tragic character."

While fans were surprised and disappointed to see Harrow go, Huston went on to tell Rolling Stone that he was satisfied with the way Harrow went out. He has since moved to a few film projects.

"I'm enjoying life with my family," said the actor. "There will be a few movies next year, but I'll hopefully pick the right ones. There's some good offers out at the moment though, so we're just deciding."

Huston has since chosen some of these projects, and Boardwalk Empire enthusiasts will just have to wait and see what he does next.
