The eighth and final episode of Season 1 is approaching for Showtime's Penny Dreadful.

The battle for Vanessa Ives' (Eva Green) soul has been won for the time being, but further questions of mortality and salvation have yet to be answered. Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) is closer than ever to finding his daughter Mina, and will do so certainly at any price.

There is speculation circling that another full moon is on its way, which would seem fitting as the pilot episode began with one. This moon would also bring some clarity into the Ethan Chandler werewolf debate. While audiences have just about accepted Chandler (Josh Hartnett) as a werewolf, the secret has not officially come out on the show.

Furthermore, clips from the preview for the season finale suggest inhuman qualities, such as something trembling beneath the skin of Chandler's hand before a bar fight. He is also shown wandering by the docks again, seemingly confused, which happened earlier in the season shortly after someone was viscously "attacked."

The Victorian supernatural drama has been renewed for a second season, and so showrunners will be setting things up for Season 2 in addition to drawing some conflict from this season to a close. Will Frankenstein's creature (Rory Kinnear) get his "mate?" Will Sir Malcolm sacrifice Miss Ives as he has promised to save his daughter?

The season finale for Penny Dreadful airs Sunday, June 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
