Derek Hough Warns "A Lot of Changes Happening" on DWTS, Unsure If He'll Be Competing
New Dancing With the Stars showrunner Rob Wade told E! News this week that Andrews would be coming back for a second season co-hosting with longtime host Tom Bergeron.
"We have Erin and Tom coming back and we're looking forward to it," Wade revealed. "We kind of knew before. We knew she had this other job and we made sure that would work out in the fall. So yeah, that's what we worked out. It's great and we're very supportive of her."
DWTS Pro Cheryl Burke Criticized For Being Too Skinny, Notes "I Don't Have An Eating Disorder"
Rumors that Andrews may have been canned from DWTS went into overdrive after a new Sports Illustrated report revealed that Andrews had been hired as the new sideline reporter for Fox's NFL team. However, it seems that she will be doing double duty.
As for the rumors of most recent pro champion Maksim Chmerkovskiy leaving the show, Wade was less confident in his answer, but he hinted that the fan favorite dancer could be back in a different area of the show.
"I don't know. I've just come back to the show, but I was on the show in season one and Maks came on in season two, so I've known Maks for 10 years now and he's a very good friend," Wade said. "I'm absolutely hoping Maks comes back to the show. I don't know whether it's going to be as a dancer. I think there's a number of different things we can talk to him about and the way he'd be involved in the show. Maks will always be part of Dancing With the Stars in some way."
Chmerkovskiy did not compete in Seasons 16 or 17 of Dancing With the Stars, choosing to pursue other projects. On his big return in Season 18, he finally won the Mirrorball Trophy with Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis. He appeared as a guest judge in Season 17.
Dancing With the Stars Season 19 debuts Monday, September 15 on ABC.
