Former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez will show off his acting skills post-retirement as he appears in at least one upcoming episode on season 12.
Gonzalez confirmed the news via Instagram by sharing a photo on set with series stars Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) and Emily Wickersham (Ellie Bishop).

Guest-starring on #NCIS this fall. Had a great time with Mark Harmon, @m_weatherly & @emilywickersham and even got to take over Gibbs desk," he wrote as the caption.
Wickersham also posted the same photo on her Twitter page with the caption, "Very special guest star @TonyGonzalez88 spicing up the squad room this fall on #NCIS."
In his rookie year in 1997, Gonzalez played for the Kansas City Chiefs and was later traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2009 until he left the league last year.
Although there have been rumors that Gonzalez would return to the NFL, the Falcons general manager pointed the record-breaking athlete in another direction.
"I believe Tony Gonzalez has retired and he'll have a fantastic career in the media business," Thomas Dimitroff told ESPN in February.
Season 12 of NCIS will premiere at 8/7c on Tuesday, Sept. 23, on CBS. The new spin-off, NCIS: New Orleans, will kick off right after.
