Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 2, Spoiler & Review
"Breaking Bad" brought us yet another mind-blowing episode with this past Sunday's "Madrigal." The episode revolved around Walt's previous hitman associate Mike, played by the talented Jonathon Banks. Mike, who has an innate ability to clean up other's messes, had to do it once again for the increasingly cocky drug kingpin Walt.
After the killing of Gus, Mike was set to cut ties with Walt. But unfortunately for him, he is the centerpiece to Walt's future drug operation. While Mike has bigger fish to fry, Walt and Jessie desperately need his security and logistics in order for their business to strive.
It turns out that the bank number that was found under Gus's picture leads to ten other associates that were linked to his warehouse operations; which include their old pal Chow and shockingly, the granddaughter of Mike.
The DEA is right on Walt's tail after one of the individuals commits suicide. The remaining individuals are then brought in for interrogation. Nervous and panicky Madrigal associate Lydia then pleads with Mike for help with offing the ten others; scared that they might open their mouth.
However, Mike does his best to ignore her; that is until one of his henchman Chris takes it upon himself to carry out the killings for her. Chris does not get too far as Mike takes him out; but not before he shoots up Chow.
Upon holding Lydia at gunpoint, Mike realizes there is no way out of the shady lifestyle and he is in need of work. After sparing her life, he finally makes the decision to join up with Walt and Jesse.
The episode was a nice change of pace as it shifted the focus off of Walt. Hence, the audience got to familiarize themselves a little bit more with the human side of Mike; which isn't typical of the stone-faced tough guy.
It will be interesting to see what direction the show takes Walt and Jesse's alliance with Mike in. Judging by their characteristics, one would think that their allegiance would eventually backfire. However, if they work together, they just may be able to get the DEA off of their tail once again.
Watch "Breaking Bed" by tuning in to AMC next Sunday July 29th at 10pm ET.
