2012 Olympic Swimming Schedule for July 31; Missy Franklin, Michael Phelps, & Ryan Lochte Race For Gold [VIDEOS]
The 2012 Olympic Schedule is filled with must-see events in the swimming category. Both Men's and Women's teams will hit the water today. Among those Olympic athletes are Missy Franklin, Michael Phelps, and Ryan Lochte, each going for the gold.
17 year-old Missy Franklin has been making waves in these 2012 Olympic games. The young swimmer broke a US record in the 100-Meter Backstroke when she swam in 58.33 seconds. Franklin, a Colorado student, earned the gold medal over Emily Seebohm of Australia and Aya Terakawa of Japan, who placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
"I never thought I'd be able to do it at 17," Missy Franklin said, "It feels absolutely incredible."
Franklin will race in the Women's 200-Meter Freestyle on Tuesday, Day 4 of Olympic games at 2:41PM EST.
All eyes are on Michael Phelps as he contends in his specialty relay, the 200-Meter Butterfly Finals. Experts and fans agree that this is an event Phelps just can't lose.
"This event is Phelps' bread and butter. He owns this race, and there's no way he doesn't win," Jesse Reed, a featured columnist for Bleacher Report says about the record-breaking US swimmer.
Michael Phelps won the 200-Meter Butterfly relay twice before and if he wins a third time, he will set yet another record. He would become the first male to win in the same event in three Olympics.
Phelps 200-Meter Butterfly relay is scheduled for 2:49PM EST.
Ryan Lochte, another US swimmer in the Olympic games, began on Day 1 with a gold win, but quickly began to disappoint. The 27 year-old swimmer failed to earn a medal in the 4x100-Meter Freestyle Relay and in the 200-Meter Freestyle on Monday.
"I did my best," Lochte said. "I guess sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I gave it 110 percent. There's probably some things I messed up on, but you live and learn."
The Tuesday Olympics schedule has Lochte down in the 4x200 Meter Freestyle team; a chance at redemption.
Qualifications for the race begin at 6:02AM EST with the final set for 3:51PM EST.
