Olympics Basketball 2012: USA Overshines Tunisia; Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love Lead the Way
After a slow 20 minutes that got fans worried, the U.S. Olympics basketball team swooped in with a 110-63 win over Tunisia on July 31.
LeBron James and Kobe Bryant were up in the first half but a failing start made coach Mike Krzyzewski bench them. He then started the second-half with his players in double figures and an improved 2-0 in the tournament, according to The Associated Press. The third-quarter opened with a 21-3 run because of players Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Deron Williams, Andre Iguodala and Russell Westbrook.
USA missed all their 3-pointers in the first half but Anthony saved them by scoring one to open up the second quarter. By the end of the game, Anthony and Love scored 16 points each; Durant came in with 13 and Davis had 12. Tunisia put up a good fight though, starting the game with a 8-4 lead and still leading by three before the U.S. second unit time ended, according to The AP.
Team USA has already beaten Argentina, Spain and France, among others, and they go against Nigeria on July 2.
USA hold the record of the most all-time Olympic basketball medals with 24, 19 of them being gold.
