US Women's Hockey Team Beat Argentinian World Champions, 1-0
Team USA shocked everyone by beating world champions from Argentina in a 1-0 victory in the women's hockey tournament on July 31.
Shannon Taylor scored the winning goal and cheers filled the room only seconds after. This win was America's repeated victory against world-ranked number two Argentina and it also helped advance their chance of a semi-final berth out of Pool B, according to Yahoo.
Four teams - Argentina, Australia, Germany and USA - are now tied in second place, each with three points, behind New Zealand.
"After losing out first match, we went out for a win to keep alive our hopes of making the semi-finals," said U.S. captain Laureen Crandall. "We knew we had the ability to win again. And we were fortunate not to have conceded the equaliser during the last 15 minutes."
Argentina's team captain, Luciana Aymar, spoke at the end of the match about America's big push for the win.
"The U.S. team plays a very physical game. It is a style we do not like," said Aymar, a multiple world player of the year winner. We need to forget this game and produce a better show in the remaining three group matches."
