At the Olympic Games, you can find athletes competing in sports such as trampoline, judo, modern pentathlon, archery and more of the popular sports like tennis, swimming and gymnastics.

But in ranking of all-time Olympic medals divided by sport, America has the most medals - 730 to be exact - in track and field. Since the Olympic Games first started, the U.S. has amassed 310 gold, 234 silver and 186 bronze medals in track and field.

It seems only fair and true to say that apparently, American's are the fastest runners.

Swimming comes in second but lags far behind with an accumulated 489 medals.

The U.S. has not won any track and field Olympic medals yet in London, with the relays beginning on Aug. 3 and going until the official last day of the Olympics on Aug. 12. But with their history, the U.S. had a good shot that blowing dust on the competition and adding another medal to their portfolio.

The Athens Olympic Games in 1896 was where Team USA won their first medals, a total of 19 throughout the various competitions. The most they ever collected in one Olympic season was 245 medals at the St. Louis Games in 1904.
