Women's Gymnastics: Aly Raisman Now Has More Olympic Medals Than Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber
The last day of gymnastics competitions for the 2012 London Olympics was on Aug. 7 and in the overall count from USA's "Fab Five" team, Aly Raisman has the most Olympic medals.
Raisman, 18, has three medals from the London Games, two gold and one bronze. She won two medals in finals on the last day of the competitions, her last one being a gold. Out of USA's "Fab Five," Gabby Douglas and McKayla Maroney won only two Olympic medals this year, and Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber received only one.
Gold medal hopeful Gabby Douglas fell short on Tuesday's final competition for the women's balance beam. Raisman scored a 15.1 in the qualifications round but when she performed on Aug. 7, she tied for third with Romania's Catalina Ponor, the former Olympic beam champion, with a score of 15.066. After much review of the tie, the judges ruled in Raisman's favor because of a higher execution and she got the bronze in the women's balance beam finals.
With one individual Olympic medal in her pocket, she moved on to win the gold later that day in the women's floor exercise finals. For the gymnastics final competition of the Olympic season, she scored 15.60- the highest floor score awarded at the Games.
The captain of the U.S women's gymnastics team made her Olympic debut in London and already has dominated her fellow American gymnastics with the number of Olympic medals she received.
