Ann Curry, Matt Lauer Reunite on 'Today' for London Olympics Coverage,Tension Remains [VIDEO]
Matt Lauer and Ann Curry reunited August 9 on the "Today" show amid rumored tensions between the former co-anchors since she was fired from the show for low ratings.
This marked their first on-screen interaction since Curry announced her departure late June. Curry sat next to Lauer on the London set of the show to report on the Olympic Games. She introduced Olympic photographer Adam Pretty but her interactions with Lauer were minimal.
"Nice to see you," Lauer greeted Curry but she did not return the sentiment and simply said "Good morning Matt." Then she went straight forward to the interview with Pretty.
When the capsule ended, Lauer said "Good to see you," but she again, did not return the sentiment.
"Curry's banter with Lauer seemed polite but distant," noted the Associated Press.
Curry was fired from the "Today" show in June amid a tearful goodbye.
Rumors have surfaced that when Lauer renewed his contract with NBC to remain as co-host of the show in April, he made it clear that he didn't want Curry as his co-anchor, TMZ reported.
Sources told Us Weekly that the tension between Lauer and Curry backstage on the days prior to her ousting was pretty strong.
"It was so icy on the set," a source told the magazine. "You could cut the tension with a knife."
"When the cameras stopped rolling, Ann wouldn't even look at Matt," the source added.
The day Curry announced her departure on air, she and Lauer had an awkward kiss when she didn't turn her head towards him when he tried to approach her and kiss her goodbye.
Instead Curry hugged co-hosts Al Roker and Natalie Morales.
