'Downtown Abbey' Season 3 Trailer Creates Fan Frenzy [VIDEO]
Fans of the British period drama series "Downton Abbey" got a special treat Wednesday when a trailer for the show's third season hit the web.
The big news for season three is the show's latest star, Shirley MacLaine, who plays the mother of Elizabeth McGovern's Lady Grantham. MacLaine will serve as a foil for one of the show's biggest stars, Dame Maggie Smith.
Season three will premiere in the show's homeland in September on British broadcaster ITV, but Americans will have to wait a little longer to get their fix. The show won't hit its American home, PBS, until January 2013.
Though "Abbey" is an import from the U.K., it has achieved enormous fanfare stateside. This year it became the most nominated non-American program in Primetime Emmy history, with a combined 27 nominations. In 2011, the series became the first from Britain to be named "most critically-acclaimed English-language television show" by The Guinness Book of World Records.
Producers have revealed that the third season is set in the Roaring '20s - it will open in 1920 and cover eighteen months of time.
The season is sure to have a few surprised to keep fans interested. Producers also said the episodes will include a marriage, a birth and the death of a well-known character.
