NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg teased that season 12 will include some big moments for fan favorite Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).

Last season, Tony experienced heartbreak when Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) decided to leave the NCIS team for good. However, he quickly returned to the bold and fun character fans love.

"I think he's moved past being the wounded bird," Weatherly, 46, told TVGuide.com in July. "[Last year,] we decided to whip that guy into shape and get him excited about the future and not holding on to the past."

Here are three major things coming up for the NCIS agent this season.

A return from DiNozzo Sr.:

Glasberg told TVLine.com that Tony's father will appear in an episode slated for March and several more after that one.

"We're actually planning to see Mr. Robert Wagner a couple of times this season," he added.

A blast from the past:

DiNozzo's days as a teenager in military preparatory academy will be displayed for the first time. Actor Tanner Stine, who appears on Nickelodoen's The Thundermans, has been cast for the episode airing sometime in February.

A potential new love:

Fans may also get to see the character with a new woman this season. Actress Marisol Nichols, who plays ATF Agent Zoe Keates, will reappear in early 2015 for an "encore." The actress first popped up in an October episode and the former Philly PD colleagues exhibited a strong chemistry.

Emily Wickersham, who stars as newcomer Ellie Bishop, told TVLine that Tony and Zoe had "really great chemistry," adding that, "Tony's love life definitely unfolds."

NCIS airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
