Ann Curry 'Today Show': NBC Should Let Her Leave? Close Friends Think So
Although still in the midst of a three-year contract with NBC, the recently demoted anchor-at-large Ann Curry reportedly has the backing of her close friends. In support of the recently ousted "Today Show" co-host, they are publically expressing that the Peacock network should allow Curry to walk on the respective deal.
According to Radar Online, a source very close to Curry recently had the following to say regarding the reporter:
"Here are the facts, Ann has only been on the air sporadically, after being promised a much bigger role. She is in year one of her three year contract, and the terms of the deal make it impossible for her to quit without serious repercussions, which includes a non-compete clause that keeps her off television for a period of two years."
Although she has been with the network since 1997, it is said that Curry is not content with her newly decreased role.
"Ann isn't going to quit, it's not in her nature, but her friends just wish that NBC would step up, do the right thing, and let her out of the contract," added the close source. "Ann has been with NBC for over 15 years, and she doesn't want to leave, but, she also doesn't want this pattern of being frozen out to continue. Something has got to change."
On June 28, due to poor ratings, Curry was removed from her co-anchor post on "The Today Show" alongside Matt Lauer and replaced by Savannah Guthrie. Despite the notable switch, the show still has not shown any clear signs of improvement, as it continues to battle in the number of ratings against ABC's "Good Morning America."
The 55-year-old recently returned to "Today" for the first time since her axing on Aug. 9, in what many describe as an awkward moment with current host Lauer. This was due to previous reports that Lauer had wanted NBC to cut ties with Curry and find a replacement.
