As "Friends" fans anxiously await the release of the entire series on Bluray in November, lovers of the show flocked to a discounted deal on the DVD version Wednesday.

Internet searches spiked for "Friends: The Complete Series" as fans raced to snatch up the collection at a 58 percent markdown -- good for Wendesday only -- on Amazon.com. The retail giant offered the entire series - that's 236 episodes on 40 discs - for only $84, down from a list price of $202.

Amazon is likely clearing stock of its regular quality DVD sets before the fan frenzy that will accompany the release of "Friends" on Bluray on Nov. 13.

The 1990s sitcom, which was originally shot on film, has already been remastered for HD and widescreen for its numerous syndication runs on networks like TBS and Nick at Nite.

The many chances to catch "Friends" on TV led to some negative feedback from web comments and fans, who say the Bluray collection's three-digit price tag is too hefty for a show that can be seen on television at just about any time.

The Bluray set's MSRP was set at $279.98, but Amazon.com lists the yet-to-be-released collection at $199.

It's been nearly 10 years since "Friends" left the airwaves in 2004, but the stars are still tabloid fixtures, especially Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green.

Aniston has been making headlines for her recent engagement to boyfriend Justin Theroux, and reports say Theroux even consulted Aniston's BFF and former "Friends" costar Courteney Cox to get her blessing before popping the question.
