Glee actress Melissa Benoist’s next role is an iconic DC Comics character!

The 26-year-old landed the role as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl for a new CBS television series.

“I wish there was a superhero emoji,” she tweeted Thursday. “But seriously, sans emoji... I AM SO EXCITED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #Supergirl.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will focus on Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, after she escaped Krypton. Kara, who was raised by a foster family named the Danvers, has lived her whole life hiding her miraculous superpowers. But, one day, the 24-year-old has to use her powers in public for a good cause. She then begins to use her powers more often to help people and it doesn’t take long for her to become known as Supergirl. The show, however, "still needs an official series order."

The publication also noted that Benoist snagged the role from many other actresses, including The Originals star Claire Holt.

Fellow actors took to Twitter to praise Benoist for her new role.

Glee star Darren Criss tweeted: “Welcome, indeed! What incredible news, @itsmmbenoist ! I always knew you were a super gal!”

Arrow star Stephen Amell said: “Congratulations to @itsmmbenoist -- You're in good hands with the DCU & all the fantastic people making your pilot.”
