"Modern Family" won its third consecutive Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series on Sunday night, and just three days later the hit sitcom was back for its fourth season premiere on ABC.

A big shocker from the third season finale carried over into season four and became the focal point of Wednesday night's episode, "Brining Up Baby."

When fans last saw the "Family," Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, played by Sofia Vergara, revealed she was pregnant. In "Bringing Up Baby," Gloria sweats having to confess to her older husband, Jay, that she's expecting because she is worried he'll be upset about starting over at his age.

Age is a significant issue for Jay in this episode as he celebrates his 65th birthday. He askes for no surprises, but that request was immediately ignored when Phil and a couple of Jay's friends throw a hood over his head and "kidnap" him for a special birthday celebration.

Their plan is a peaceful day of fishing, meant to show Jay that getting older won't be so bad. But rather than relaxing him, the talk about playing hundreds of games of golf and starting a garden actually upsets Jay, who doesn't want to feel like his life is over just because he's growing older.

When Gloria finally confesses her baby news, the reaction is not what she expected - Jay is delighted. He's excited to have a new child to keep him young and bring him closer to his family, and his happiness brings the entire clan together for a signature emotional "Modern Family" episode-closing moment.

While Gloria frets over confessing that she will have a baby, Mitchell and Cameron are dealing with the disappointment of not having one. In the season three finale, the couple thought they were adopting a son, but the birth mother pulled out at the last minute - leaving them to figure out how to deal with not being able to grow their family as they'd like to.

One family that is growing is the Dunphy household. Claire and Phil have an extra houseguest as they allow daughter Haley's boyfriend, Dylan, to move into their home for a few months, much to overprotective Claire's dismay.

The fourth season of "Modern Family" continues next Wednesday with the season's second episode, "Schooled."
