In the premiere episode, we saw another Seattle Grace surgeon succumb to his injuries from the staff's plane crash into the mountains, and that's not the only bit of drama to hit "Grey's Anatomy" fans watching on Sept. 27.

"Dying changes everything," Meredith opened the show by stating. "The world just keeps on going...without you."

In the premiere, we saw a whole load of new interns and residents now at the hospital, and Meredith as the new Bailey-like Nazi, nicknamed "Medusa." Cristina is away working in Minnesota while Karev is heading to Johns Hopkins. Bailey was suspiciously happy and Sloan was laying on life support. However, eventually his severe injuries get the best of him and he died.

At the start of the show, a deadline was set: 5 p.m. Viewers did not know what it was for at first, but then they find out that Sloan, who at that point was depending on life-support but was unresponsive, had a demand in his living will:

"If after 30 days, there were no signs of recovery," Richard Webber said, "Mark wanted to be let go." He then he added: "That's all we're doing. Honoring his wish."

The whole hospital is devastated by his death and Callie gets hit very hard with it, thinking that she was somehow responsive for Sloan's demise for not making him open his eyes. Derek was just as torn up, if not more.

Other highlights include Bailey continuing her torrid romance with Dr. Ben Warren and Cristina's move to Minnesota, serving as an attending at her new hospital. She does not get along so well with her co-workers and viewers are left asking, when will she return to Seattle Grace?

Chief Hunt tells Kepner he wants her back at the hospital and that she needs to give up her days working on her family farm."Nothing is the same over there. It's all...I keep trying to think of ways I could have done things differently. I keep looking for the do-overs. I should never have taken your job from you," he says. "You don't belong out here on a farm. You belong in Seattle, saving lives. Now come home!"

Arizona survives the plane crash, but she is missing one leg. She goes into a state of depression, which Callie tries to get her out of.

"You never really stop feeling the loss," Meredith says at the end of the episode. "It's what makes thing so bittersweet. We leave little bits of ourselves behind. Little reminders, a lifetime of memories, photos, trinkets. Things to remember us by, even when we're gone."
Then the screen flashes and simply says "Mark Sloan, 1968-2012."

Watch "Grey's Anatomy" every Thursday night on ABC.
